Ballona Stewards and
GoEcokids Partnership
The Ballona Wetlands Land Trust partners with the group GoEcokids in its restoration work at Ballona. GoEcokids was created by a group of elementary school students who wanted to help restore the wetlands. Check out their website, their movie about the wetlands on YouTube, and the scrapbook that the Ecokids put together.
Help Restore the Wetlands!
WHEN: The second Saturday of each month, starting at 9:30 am. We will work roughly in 2 shifts, from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 3:30, with a pizza lunch in between. Feel free to come for one shift or both!
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT: Fun, exercise, and great people. We will be combating invasive species of plants, as well as picking up trash.
WHAT TO BRING: Water, gloves, closed-toe shoes, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and sun protection.
WHERE: Ballona Wetlands northeast – Along the Ballona Creek bike path just east of Lincoln Blvd. and on the south side of Culver Blvd. Look for the group near the baseball field parking lots. Depending on the date this location may change, but the site will stay updated.
Directions (car):
The turnoff is on Culver Blvd. between Lincoln Blvd. and I-90. Take the 405 to the Marina Freeway 90 West to the Culver Blvd. offramp, turn left on Culver Blvd. (going west or towards the ocean), and then turn left into the upward sloping driveway for the baseball fields (on the south side of Culver Blvd.). The left turn into the ball fields can be hard to find, so make sure to go slow. You should be able to see the high backstops for the ball fields. If you find yourself passing the turnoff for Lincoln Blvd and going over a bridge farther to Playa del Rey, you have missed the driveway for the ball fields.
If you are coming from the west or Playa del Rey, turn right into the driveway soon after going over the bridge over Lincoln Blvd. It’s the second right turn after the bridge. If you go under the 90 overpass, heading east, you have missed the driveway.
When you arrive at the site, look for the group, probably gathering near the parking lot.
If you come via the Ballona Bikepath, look for the open gate near Lincoln Blvd.
DIRECTIONS (bicycle):
From the ocean: Take the Ballona Creek bike path east, go under the Lincoln Blvd. bridge, then look for an open gate with our sign along the bike path.
From Centinela: Take the Ballona Creek bike path west, go under the Marina freeway bridge and continue for another half mile or so until you see us along the bike path just before Lincoln Blvd.
