Trash, Access and Invasives

In evaluating the pros and cons of the various project alternatives, it is very important that we consider the incremental benefits that are unique to each alternative.  Proponents of large scale measures have implied that things like the removal of trash and invasive species and the opening up of the ecological reserve to public access are among the benefits of their preferred design.  But these things can all be achieved just as easily with smaller scale, less intrusive measures.  That is not to say that the larger scale options don’t provide any additional benefits which could not be achieved by other alternatives.  It is only to say that we need to be very careful to focus on those incremental benefits in evaluating various options and not blur the lines between expected benefits of a particular option versus benefits that we can expect to achieve via any of the proposed options.
