The Need for Acquisition

 

As proud as we all are to have preserved 600 acres of the Ballona Wetlands, far more than many of our detractors thought was possible, we must still recognize that it is a fraction of the original ecosystem and that any restoration effort will be limited by the size of the remaining ecological preserve. In fact, this limitation is acknowledged in the document entitled “Ballona Wetlands Restoration Goals and Objectives, Opportunities and Constraints

Since there are additional acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the current preserve, we are concerned that the same state agencies and non-profit organizations that are participating in the restoration design process seem not to have incorporated any acquisition component into their strategies.
